Religious life is shared among Muslims (the largest group), Christians, and followers of traditional beliefs, historically with notable tolerance now strained by insurgency.

Burkina Faso has a very young, fast-growing population but low literacy and development, with a worsening humanitarian and security crisis displacing huge numbers.
