May 10-2018- Israel Strikes Iranian Targets in Syria

Late in the evening of May 9, 20 rockets were fired at Israeli position on the Syrian border from Syria. 16 of the missiles failed to reach the Israeli border, those that did were shot down by Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system. Israel had warned about a potential attack for a number of days. In fact, the night before it had destroyed Iranian missiles that it claimed were going to be used for an attack. Israel warned repeatedly that if the Iranians attacked Israel from Syria with rockets it would destroy all of the Iranian infrastructures in Syria. Shortly after the attack Israel responded with a coordinated attack on 40 Iranian targets in different parts of Syria. It warned the Syrian not to interfere, but Syrian anti-aircraft batteries tried to engage the Israeli planes and were destroyed. These events took place a day after President Trump announced that the United States was withdrawing from its agreement with Iran over nuclear weapons.
