Valeda ( SP-592)—a wooden-hulled cabin motor launch completed in 1908 at Stamford, Conn., by the Stamford Motor Co.—was acquired by the Navy from F. B. Richards of Cleveland, Ohio, on 9 July 1917 and was commissioned on 12 July 1917 at Rockland Maine, Chief Quartermaster Cecil C. Wescott in command.

Attached to the 1st Naval District, Rockland Section Valeda operated on harbor and harbor entrance patrols for the duration of World War I. After the armistice, she was decommissioned on 4 February 1919 at Baker's Yacht Basin, Quincy, Mass., and struck from the Navy list on 1 October 1919. Valeda was subsequently sold to J. R. C. McBeath, of Atlantic, Mass., on 2 January 1920.
