The tug operated at the Naval Operating Base at Bermuda until 27 April 1945, when she was ordered to report to the Commandant, 3d Naval District, for duty at Tompkinsville, N.Y. She served there until 29 August 1945, when she was placed out of service preparatory to disposal. On 17 September 1945, Shabonee was struck from the Navy list.
