Trinidad and Tobago is strikingly diverse, with people of Indian and African descent the two largest groups, plus mixed and other communities — a legacy of slavery and indentured labor. English is the official language.

Religious life is correspondingly diverse, including Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam, coexisting in a multicultural society.

Trinidad and Tobago has high literacy and incomes from energy wealth and a famously vibrant culture — the birthplace of calypso, soca, and the steelpan, and home to a world-renowned Carnival.
