Jacksonville Airport

Before the airport was built balloonists (as early as 1878) and pilots landed on Jacksonville Beach. In 1927 Jacksonville opened its first municipal airport where Imeson Industrial Park is today. Lindbergh landed on October 11, 1927 to join in the festivities for the airport. In 1911 Robert G. Fowler made the first transcontinental flight eastbound while the first transcontinental flight in less than 24 hours was made by James H. Doolittle in 1922. The Blue Angels first air show was in 1946 at Jacksonville.
