1942 RAF Launches 1,000 Bomber Raid

On May 31st the RAF launched it first 1,000 plane raid against a German city- Cologne. The raid dropped 1,455 tons of explosives on the city- two thirds of them incendiary. It was the first of almost nightly raids against German cities by the RAF
