Miller’s Landing

The municipality of Douglas County, Colorado, Castle Rock (named after a castle-shaped butte) is one of the most populous towns. It had a rhyolite quarrying industry when early settlers found rhyolite instead of gold, ultimately leading to its settlement.
Innovation has been one of the key factors for its growth. Over the years, major companies have invested in building this town and aiding its growth.

Miller’s Landing

One of the major projects started in Castle Rock includes Miller’s Landing: an initiative to build smart towns. Powered by Intel, the project is expected to open by 2025 and will result in creating the nation’s first SmartTown.
The infrastructure will comprise housing units, business units, recreation, health and commerce buildings, and more using Intel’s low latency networking interface. This will also include renewable technology usage, future enabling products, audio/visual tech, and cutting-edge computing software that will aid in the creation of smart units for the entire town.

How Will the Life Be in Miller’s Landing?

The project encompasses the concept of creating a smart city design that will ensure that everyone within the 65-acre development remains connected. To aid the completion of the project and achieve large-scale smart connectivity, the project will utilize cloud architecture with a converged network supported by multiple carriers.

What are the Key Pillars of Miller’s Landing?

The key to building a smart town is ensuring low latency for every unit and activity occurring in the project. The town has to be connected from every aspect to support smart facilities such as retail, healthcare, outdoor, and indoor spaces, and more.
In addition, the planning stage itself holds importance as construction and technology are planned to go hand in hand, unlike the conventional method of adding tech to construction.
In order to ensure that the smart devices and units remain connected, the infrastructure must use high-speed internet services available in the area. Only then the low latency objective can be reached, ensuring that the units remain connected without any lags.

The Reason for Innovation?

The reason why Intel is investing in this project is to bring together the beauty of Castle Rock and technology, making it America’s first smart town. It already has Philip S. Miller Park, which can be cashed as a great opportunity for creating smart amenities with premium experiences.
Plus, the target is to create a smart walkable neighborhood with trails and more, offering access to other units at just a click. Within this aspect, the domain of food can also be streamlined and connected for the people. It’ll allow people to find and make healthy lifestyle choices.

Enhanced User Experiences

Facilitating the residents via user experience, Miller’s Landing will also encompass screens of varied sizes. These will also be used for advertisement purposes as well as serve as a method for wayfinding in the area.
Although enhancing comfort and accessibility are the key objectives of this project, it will also be gathering information on the overall experience, which will readily be available to the users. The only main concern that Intel is addressing at the moment is embedding latency-free connection to the screens.
While doing so, Intel also plans on integrating the screens with the smartphones of the residents via a branded mobile application. This will also be used as a source of communication during events, bookings, and other such activities.

Better Mobility

Via the SmartTown project, residents will be able to get more mobility as access will be streamlined via a smartphone app. From booking a cab to shopping to accessing facilities, everything will be streamlined through the app.
Another amazing thing introduced is the showcase attraction using EV Chargers, which Boutique Hotel Professionals (BHP) will be responsible for. Drivers stopping for a charge will enjoy amenities offered at the property while their vehicles charge, improving overall attraction.
Speaking of charging, users will also be able to find a parking spot via the app and will be able to book it in advance to avoid facing the hassle of finding one later.

The Future Is Here

While maintaining the overall aesthetics of the project, Intel plans to bring a futuristic outlook via the Miller’s Landing project. Eco-savvy elements will be included to maximize environment-friendly construction and aid in sustainability.
Using IoTs and intelligent building systems, the project will ensure that environmental hazards are minimized wherever possible. In addition, the project will only utilize energy where needed via energy-efficient water and power solutions.
Technology will definitely play a key role and IT innovation including AI will be in arms for the success of this digital space.
