| In 1890, settlers outside the Sioux reservation, in the Dakotas, feared that the Sioux were going to undertake another revolt. They called in the cavalry. The cavalry responded by arresting several hundred Sioux. In the ensuing confusion, some shots were fired. the cavalry turned their machine guns on the Sioux; and 290 men, women and children were killed or wounded. |
