Bulgaria Declares Independence

Bulgaria Declares Independence
European History

Bulgaria had effectively been independent from the Ottomans since the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78. It was legally under the rule of the Ottomans. The revolution of the Young Turks in the Ottoman Empire made it the perfect time to declare full independence from the Ottomans. Prince Ferdinand traveled to Tarnovo- there on October 5, 1908, at the Holy Forty Martyrs Church, he declared Bulgarian Independence. He also changed his title to King from Prince and declared that Bulgaria was now a Kingdom.
