A film star who retired from movies in 1956 to marry a real-life prince, Grace Kelly remained the object of enormous public interest throughout her reign as Monaco's princess.She was born on November 12, 1929 in Philadelphia Pennsylviania. She went to local Catholic Schools where she acted in all the school plays. After graduating she was determined to persue a carreer in acting.
Her Hollywood tenure was marked by roles in many popular films, including Dial M forMurder (1954), To Catch a Thief (1955), High Noon (1952), and The Country Girl (1954), for which she received an Academy Award.
While attending the Cannes Film Festival in 1955 she met Prince Rainer III of Monocao. He came to the US at the end of the year and proposed to Kelly. They were married on April 18, 1956.
Tragically, her life was cut short in a car accident precipitated, it is believed, by her suffering a stroke while behind the wheel.
