Ralph Bunche

Ralph Bunche was born on August 7, 1904 in Detroit Michigan. Bunche was a graduate of UCLA. He received a PhD in government from Harvard in 1934. In 1944, Bunche joined the Department of State. He was one of the drafters of the UN charter, and became director of the UN Trusteeship Department. Following the assassination of Count Bernadotte, he helped arrange the ceasefire between Israel and the Arab States following the 1948 War of Independence. For those efforts, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for peace.
