Georgia O' Keefe

In a career spanning seventy years, leading 20th century American artist Georgia O'Keefe created some of the most original images in the history of art.She was born in Town of Sun Prairie, Wisonsin on November 15, 1887. She had decided to become an artist from the age of 10

Her unusual use of color was coupled with an abstract eroticism. O'Keefe was married to celebrated photographer Alfred Stieglitz and he was the guiding force behind her one-woman shows.

After Stieglitz's death in 1946, O'Keefe moved permanently to the Southwest, where she was continually inspired by the New Mexico landscape.
