Day Eighty-Three April 13, 2009

The President began his day with his security briefing. Next the First Family took part in the traditional White House Easter Egg Roll. For the first time in American history tickets to the Easter Egg Roll were given distributed over the inherent.

At 11:35 the President and the Vice President delivered remarks at the Department of Transportation. The President spoke about the many Transportations products that were being undertaken and the fact that the projects were coming in under budget and faster then scheduled. The real news that the President made at were his remarks that he made regarding the frreeing by the US navy of merchant captain held by Somalian pirates. The President stated that :"I want to be very clear that we are resolved to halt the rise of privacy [sic] in that region. And to achieve that goal we're going to have to continue to work with our partners to prevent future attacks, we have to continue to be prepared to confront them when they arise, and we have to ensure that those who commit acts of piracy are held accountable for their crimes." The President and Vice President then received the daily economic brieifng. The President then met with his senior advisors followed by a meeting with Defense Secretary Gates.

The biggest news of the day however, was the announcement by Press Secretary Gibbs of a major revision of US policy toward Cuba. The new policy removes all restrictions of visits and money transfer by Cuban Americans to their relatives in Cuba, and allows US telecoms to set up wireless networks in Cuba. The President thus fulfilled one of his campaign promises.
