President Obama began his day with his daily briefings first on security matters and then on the state of economy. The President then signed his first bill into law. The law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that relaxes the the statue of limitation on cases of pay discrimination. After the ceremony the First Lady Michelle Obama spoke about the bill and Mrs Ledbetter who attended the signing (remarks)
In the afternoon the President and Vice Presdient met with Treasury Secretary Geithner. After the meeting the President met with reporters. In his remarks the President commented on a story in the morning New York Times about the $18 Billion in bonuses paid to Wall Street employees at the end of the year. He stated that the actions were: "the height of irresponsibility" for financial corporations to have doled out $18 billion in bonuses to their employees in a year when many banks shed jobs and turned to the government for funds.(remarks)
