BIOGRAPHY

| Mosby Monroe Parsons was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on May 21, 1822. When he was young, he moved to Cole City, Missouri, where passed the bar. After taking part in the Mexican War, he served as state attorney general in Missouri (1853-1857), and was elected to the state senate. During the secession crisis, he wanted Missouri to join the Confederacy. Commissioned brigadier general on November 5, 1862, he fought at Carthage, Springfield, Pea Ridge and in the campaigning in Arkansas. Parsons later took part in the Red River Campaign in the spring of 1864, and the Camden Expedition. Promoted by never confirmed as a major general, he fled to Mexico after the Confederacy surrendered. It is unclear what happened after he went to Mexico, but it seems that he joined Imperialistic forces. Parsons is believed to have been killed, along with five other people from the United States, by Republican irregulars around August 15, 1865. He was probably buried in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico. |
